Kallio Dominates Moto2 Race at IMS

Pole sitter Mika Kallio of Finland held the lead the entire way in winning his third Moto2 race of the season and 16th Grand Prix race of his career on Sunday during the Red Bull Indianapolis GP at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

When the race began Kallio took the lead on his Kalex bike through Turn 1, and by Lap 4 he had opened up a sizeable gap of 2.578 seconds over the field. A crash in Turn 10 during Lap 4 involving Randy Krummenacher, Azlan Shah, Mattia Pasini and Anthony West brought out the red flag and the race was stopped. When the race restarted it was announced for 16 laps with the field returned to original grid order, and once underway Kallio returned to his dominance.

Kallio won the race 1.380 seconds clear of runner-up Maverick Vinales of Spain, with Dominique Aegerter of Switzerland finishing third. Tito Rabat of Spain, who finished fourth, entered the race leading the Moto2 standings by 19 points over Kallio. With today’s results, Rabat’s lead is now 7 points.
