The Red Bull Indianapolis GP will be the 11th of 19 events in the 2013 MotoGP World Championship, scheduled for Aug. 16-18 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The sixth MotoGP race at IMS will take place on the same weekend as 2012, according to a provisional schedule released Sept. 21 by Dorna and the FIM. For the second consecutive year, races in the United States will form the bookends of the traditional summer break for the world’s most prestigious motorcycle series. The Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix is scheduled for July 19-21 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif., followed by three off weekends and then the Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 16-18. The Red Bull Indianapolis GP starts one of two crucial stretches of races on three consecutive weekends in the second half of the season. Following the event at IMS are races Aug. 25 in the Czech Republic and Sept. 1 in Great Britain. Another run of three consecutive events takes place Oct. 13 in Malaysia, Oct. 20 in Australia and Oct. 27 in Japan. The 2013 season starts with the sole night race, the Grand Prix of Qatar on March 31. The season finale is the Grand Prix of Valencia on Nov. 10. While the event weekend of the Red Bull Indianapolis GP remains unchanged, there were significant alterations to the 2013 calendar. The schedule increased from 18 to 19 races. The Grand Prix of Portugal at Estoril was dropped, and two new events with locations to be confirmed will take place April 14 and April 21. There will be three Americans on the MotoGP starting grid next season: 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden, 2010 Rookie of the Year Ben Spies and Colin Edwards. Hayden will ride for the prestigious Ducati Team, while Spies joins the new Ducati junior team. Edwards will return to NGM Mobile Forward Racing. MotoGP features exciting racing by the world’s best riders on exotic, 1000cc prototype motorcycles. World Championship support classes Moto2 and Moto3 will return to IMS in 2013. Other support classes will be announced in the future. IMS is accepting ticket applications for the 2013 Red Bull Indianapolis GP MotoGP event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
