1,000 Indianapolis Students To Participate in STEM Experience at Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim

The Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim will host a three-day student STEM experience as part of LPGA event week, with The Eureka! Exchange, “TEE”, taking place Wednesday, Sept. 6 through Friday, Sept. 8 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway East Chalet.

TEE is one of several ancillary events dedicated to furthering the mission of the tournament, which, in addition to hosting the world’s best female golfers in Indianapolis, is to provide exposure and funds for key initiatives focusing on women in tech and youth STEM and robotics programs. One thousand Indianapolis fifth- and sixth-grade children will be exposed to STEM experiences through engaging hands-on activities, curated by industry experts.

“The Eureka! Exchange concept aims to expose Indiana-based students to fun and interactive activities with a goal of them coming away feeling less intimidated and more intrigued about the wonders of STEM,” said Dan Towriss,pPresident and CEO of Guggenheim Life and Annuity. “The Indianapolis Motor Speedway provides the perfect venue for us to inspire the minds of our attendees, which will be aided by the impressive list of partners who have stepped up to support this important cause.”

Thanks to the support of Guggenheim Life and Annuity, event officials created three days of programming curated by the following organizations: TechPoint Foundation for Youth, Purdue School of Engineering & Technology IUPUI, Rolls-Royce, Codelicious, Eleven Fifty Academy, Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and Maker Youth Foundation. 

“Our partners at Guggenheim and the Indy Women in Tech Foundation are providing a key opportunity for students, especially girls, to learn about careers in STEM at a pivotal time in their educational careers through programming like The Eureka! Exchange,” said Laura Dodds, executive director, TechPoint Foundation for Youth. “We are grateful to walk alongside them, and so many other great organizations, as we focus on both filling and diversifying Indy’s future tech talent pipeline. Hopefully, we also inspire some future female golfers, as well.” 

Event organizers invited select schools across Central Indiana for the inaugural year.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is contributing $10,000 to the American Red Cross to assist its relief efforts for Haitian earthquake victims. Motorsports fans also can contribute to the American Red Cross in many ways, including a continuing online auction at the IMS eBay site and a Brickyard Authentics retail store price reduction. Among the new items added to the auction is a VIP ticket package to the 2010 Indianapolis 500.

American Motorsports Media Name Franchitti Driver Of The Year
Dario Franchitti received more recognition for his 2009 IZOD IndyCar Series championship Jan. 16 by being named the recipient of the Jerry Titus Award during the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association's All-America Team dinner in Brownsburg, Ind. The Titus award, given in remembrance of the late racer/journalist, signifies the top vote-getter among All-America Team members as the driver of the year. Franchitti also won the award following his 2007 series championship and Indianapolis 500 victory.
