1,000 Indianapolis Students To Participate in STEM Experience at Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim

The Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim will host a three-day student STEM experience as part of LPGA event week, with The Eureka! Exchange, “TEE”, taking place Wednesday, Sept. 6 through Friday, Sept. 8 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway East Chalet.

TEE is one of several ancillary events dedicated to furthering the mission of the tournament, which, in addition to hosting the world’s best female golfers in Indianapolis, is to provide exposure and funds for key initiatives focusing on women in tech and youth STEM and robotics programs. One thousand Indianapolis fifth- and sixth-grade children will be exposed to STEM experiences through engaging hands-on activities, curated by industry experts.

“The Eureka! Exchange concept aims to expose Indiana-based students to fun and interactive activities with a goal of them coming away feeling less intimidated and more intrigued about the wonders of STEM,” said Dan Towriss,pPresident and CEO of Guggenheim Life and Annuity. “The Indianapolis Motor Speedway provides the perfect venue for us to inspire the minds of our attendees, which will be aided by the impressive list of partners who have stepped up to support this important cause.”

Thanks to the support of Guggenheim Life and Annuity, event officials created three days of programming curated by the following organizations: TechPoint Foundation for Youth, Purdue School of Engineering & Technology IUPUI, Rolls-Royce, Codelicious, Eleven Fifty Academy, Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and Maker Youth Foundation.

“Our partners at Guggenheim and the Indy Women in Tech Foundation are providing a key opportunity for students, especially girls, to learn about careers in STEM at a pivotal time in their educational careers through programming like The Eureka! Exchange,” said Laura Dodds, executive director, TechPoint Foundation for Youth. “We are grateful to walk alongside them, and so many other great organizations, as we focus on both filling and diversifying Indy’s future tech talent pipeline. Hopefully, we also inspire some future female golfers, as well.”

Event organizers invited select schools across Central Indiana for the inaugural year.

Top 10 Moments of 2017 - #1: Alonsomania
Alonso showed plenty of humility and willingness to learn from all corners during the test. He appreciated both the history of IMS and the enormity of the task of trying to earn the second leg of his goal of wearing the Triple Crown of motorsport by winning the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 and 24 Hours of Le Mans. Only 1966 Indianapolis 500 winner Graham Hill has achieved that feat.

Sato showed incredible grace and speed under pressure over the final two laps, refusing to fumble away his chance for glory like in 2012. It’s one thing to win at Indy; it’s quite another to hold off Castroneves, one of the best drivers to ever turn a lap around the historic 2.5-mile oval.

Top 10 Moments of 2017 - #5: Cornelison Brings House Down
“Back Home Again in Indiana” is a short song with a long legacy at IMS. It’s not the national anthem. It’s not even the official state song of Indiana. But it has meant so much to so many people since Metropolitan Opera star James Melton started the tradition of singing the song on Race Morning before the Indianapolis 500 in 1946.
