Indianapolis 500 proves a snail can be Turbotastic

"Turbo" is a high-velocity 3D animated comedy about a garden variety snail who dares to dream big -- and fast.

After a freak accident gives him super speed, Turbo embarks on a journey to realize his dream of competing in the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. Ryan Reynolds is the voice of Turbo.

Hulman & Co. CEO Mark Miles, who attended a recent screening in Los Angeles, said DreamWorks Animation CEO Jefferey Katzenberg noted that the film has received exceptionally positive feedback from focus groups.

“It’s not like I’m a movie critic, but it’s really good,” he said. “They have done a lot of their market testing and their message to us was that it was testing better with adults, young kids and teenagers than expected. I look at it as a big advertisement for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and INDYCAR.”

The feature film, which opens in theaters July 19, is produced by Lisa Stewart and directed by David Soren.

Remembering John Cooper
John Cooper, who died Wednesday at the age of 84, was a major player in the motorsports world, not just during his time from 1979-82 as the president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Cooper was as much of a racing enthusiast as a mover-and-shaker.
