Qualifications
: Three rounds of knockout qualifying to determine the Verizon P1 Award winner and set the first three rows. Twelve cars from 10-minute Segment 1 (six quickest from Groups 1 and 2) advance to 10-minute Segment 2. Top six advance to 10-minute Firestone Fast Six session to determine Verizon P1 Award.

TV: NBCSN telecasts qualifications (3-4 p.m. PDT, April 12) and the race (1-4 p.m. PDT, April 13). Leigh Diffey is the chief announcer. … Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires race telecast on NBCSN (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. PDT, April 13).

He said it: “Long Beach ranks No. 2 on my win list next to the Indy 500 because of my family’s history there,” said Marco Andretti, driver of the No. 25 Snapple car for Andretti Autosport. His grandfather, Mario, won the race four times and his father, Michael, won twice.

Of note: A Verizon IndyCar Series autograph session is scheduled from 4-5 p.m. April 11 at the teams' respective transporters. … Firestone will present $10,000 to the entrant of the car in pit lane the shortest amount of accumulated time during the race. Cars must complete 95 perent of the race to be eligible. The No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing car driven by Scott Dixon earned the Firestone Pit Stop Performance Award at St. Petersburg. … Sunoco will present $5,000 to the entrant of the driver who completes the fastest lap of the race. Will Power in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car posted the quickest race lap (1 minute, 2.3404 seconds) on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn St. Petersburg temporary street course. … Power won the Long Beach race in 2008 and 2012 – bookends to earning the pole in 2009-11 (in which he finished second, third and 10th). Power has won the past three Verizon IndyCar Series races dating to Houston 2 in October. … Since the first Indy car race in 1984 at Long Beach, eight drivers have won the race and the season championship in the same year. Dario Franchitti in 2009 is the most recent. … Since 1994, six drivers have won the second race of the season and gone on to win the championship. Sebastien Bourdais in 2007 is the most recent. … Seven drivers who have won the race are entered. Only Bourdais and Power have won it multiple times. ... Team Penske drivers have earned the pole four of the past five years. ... Mario Andretti is the grand marshal of the Verizon IndyCar Series race. … Bronze medal-winning paralympic snowboarder and “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Amy Purdy will be the grand marshal of the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race on April 12. Brian McKnight will perform the national anthem.

Rahal Claims Closest Texas Motor Speedway Finish in Firestone 600
The Firestone 600, begun on June 12 but paused after heavy rainfall, resumed Saturday night after a 76-day postponement with Hinchcliffe (No. 5 Arrow Electronics Honda) leading the field to the restart on Lap 74. The remaining 174 laps provided an absolute thrill show as Hinchcliffe and Rahal (No. 15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda) duked it out to the checkered flag, with Rahal sweeping past Hinchcliffe in Turn 3 on the final lap that gave him the advantage to earn his fourth career win in electrifying fashion.

Pruett's Preview: Firestone 600, Continued
With the Verizon IndyCar Series and TMS left to halt the race after 72 laps (173 kilometers) and multiple delays due to bad weather, the ninth race on the 2016 tour will take the green flag after a 78-day hold. And with 177 laps (427km) left to complete, teams will receive two brief 10-minute warmup sessions before the field is placed into the positions each driver held on the last lap in June and sent into furious action at 9 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
