IMS Indy Girls Unveiled at Midwest Fashion Week

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Indy Girls made their first appearance this evening at the 2014 Midwest Fashion Week Runway Showcase at the Indianapolis Artsgarden in downtown Indianapolis.

While the event showcased the fashions of many accomplished designers, the highlight of the event was the introduction of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Indy Girls in their race day attire. They will serve as goodwill ambassadors at the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis on Saturday, May 10, and at future IMS and IMS-supported community events.

“The inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis is an exciting opportunity to debut new traditions at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said Jarrod Krisiloff, Indianapolis Motor Speedway senior director of marketing. “Motor racing is a highly fashionable sport comprised of stunning racing vehicles and athletes, and the Indy Girls will be another beautiful addition to the pageantry of this inaugural event.”

The Indy Girls unveiled their Grand Prix of Indianapolis presentation dresses designed by Indianapolis designer and Midwest Fashion Week director Berny Martin of Catou. Martin’s designs offer creativity that extends beyond conventional fashion. Celebrities who wear Martin’s designs include three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves.

“Designing a dress for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Indy Girls is truly an honor,” Martin said. “The dress was inspired by the shape and form of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and different elements that make the racetrack unique. I drew from the culture of the Midwest and the different talents that make it unique.”

The Indy Girls will appear during grid and podium trophy presentations during the Grand Prix of Indianapolis featuring the Verizon IndyCar Series drivers and teams on the reconfigured IMS road course. The event will jump-start Month of May activities at IMS and build toward the 98th Indianapolis 500 later in the month. All series in the Mazda Road to Indy will compete during the event, placing a singular spotlight on all levels of North American open-wheel racing throughout May at the Racing Capital of the World.
