Women's World Cup Champion Lauren Holiday to Drive the Chevrolet SS Pace Car at Crown Royal Presents the Jeff Kyle 400 at the Brickyard

Indianapolis native Lauren Holiday, a midfielder on the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup-winning U.S. National soccer team, will drive the Chevrolet SS pace car to start Sunday’s Crown Royal Presents the Jeff Kyle 400 at the Brickyard.

“It’s been an incredible month for me, winning a world title while representing the United States,” Holiday said. “This will be another incredible thrill, driving a pace car in my hometown in front of the greatest race fans in the world.”

Holiday attended Ben Davis High School and has played on U.S. National teams for a decade. She has won two Olympic gold medals and has played in two World Cups. In the United States’ 5-2 win over Japan in the championship match on July 5, she scored a goal.

This is Holiday’s first public appearance in Indiana since the World Cup.

“We’ve had plenty of champions from other sports here during our race weekends but it’s special to have a hometown hero visit,” said J. Douglas Boles, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president. “Lauren Holiday is the perfect choice to drive the pace car before what should be another great race at the Brickyard.”

The SS continues Chevrolet’s tradition of pacing races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at IMS has been led by a Chevrolet, dating to the first Brickyard 400 in 1994.

“We are honored to have Lauren Holiday drive the Chevrolet SS pace car and lead the field to the green flag to start the 22nd running of the Brickyard 400,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports. “She is a true champion.”

It is the second consecutive year that the Chevrolet SS will serve as the pace car for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at IMS.

The SS is Chevrolet’s first V-8 rear-wheel-drive performance sedan since 1996. It is powered by the LS3 Chevrolet V-8, delivering an SAE-certified 415 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque. The Chevrolet SS in 2015 adds more performance-oriented features that enhance its dynamic driving experience, like Magnetic Ride Control and a six-speed manual transmission.
