He arrived with a lot of hype as NASCAR’s star of the future, and he immediately backed that up by winning for the first time in a Cup car in the first of two Gatorade 125 qualifying races in 1993.

New Car Puts Stock Look Back Into NASCAR Starting At Daytona
The so-called “glory days” of stock car racing featured race cars that looked just like the 1965 Ford Galaxy 500 that Dad – make that, Grandpa – drove as the family car. Drivers such as Fearless Fred Lorenzen would burn up the track in the Daytona 500 in this model of car to take the checkered flag in 1965. Or for the Richard Petty fans, the elaborate Mopar creations that “King Richard” drove to six of his record seven Daytona 500 victories from 1964-81.
